D. Alexander Martin is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His law practice focuses on bankruptcy law. He assists individuals suffering from financial distress with orderly liquidations under Chapter 7, debt restructuring under Chapter 13 and Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, wage earner plans under state law, and financial workouts as an alternative to bankruptcy. He is a personable, compassionate attorney who believes strongly in treating clients with respect and dignity and keeping clients well-informed of significant developments in their cases.
Alex has appeared in hundreds of cases representing clients in bankruptcy court hearings and creditor meetings. Prior to joining Miller & Miller, he was an associate attorney in the bankruptcy and litigation practice groups at DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., where he represented individuals, corporations, institutional lenders, insurers, and family owned and operated businesses in a broad range of bankruptcy and litigation matters in state court in Wisconsin and federal courts in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
In 2009, Alex was named among the best as a Rising Star in Wisconsin by the national publication Law & Politics. He is also an active member of, among others, the American Bankruptcy Institute, Milwaukee Bar Association and the Bankruptcy, Insolvency, and Creditor's Rights Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin.
A magna cum laude graduate, Alex earned a juris doctorate degree in 2003 from Marquette University (Milwaukee), after transferring from DePaul University (Chicago). He earned numerous recognitions for academic achievement and is an honor society member of Alpha Sigma Nu (Marquette Chapter, 2003) and Phi Kappa Phi (DePaul Chapter, 2002). While at Marquette, he also served as a judicial intern for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge John L. Coffey.
Prior to law school, Alex attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he earned a bachelor's degree in social work and practiced social work in Washington D.C., operating a food bank and providing rent and utility assistance to low income families and individuals in the D.C. area. He also investigated suspected cases of child abuse or neglect with the State of Wisconsin as a social worker.
When not in the office assisting clients, Alex is home with his wife and five children whose family activities include enjoying Wisconsin outdoors, museums, swimming, chess, and celebrating Mass.
