Lenders could foreclose because of unpaid home equity loans

People who have paid off their homes might believe that they are not in danger of foreclosure. However, Wisconsin residents who have outstanding home equity loans might want to think again. Home equity lines of credit are secured by the properties to which they are attached, and the loans act as mortgages. If you default on those loans, the lenders are likely to foreclose. A bankruptcy adviser makes the following recommendations.

Credit card reform providing benefits

Wisconsin residents who have struggled with credit card debt may be interested to see what the government has done to help. In 2009, Congress passed the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act to protect consumers from predatory lending practices. Recent research suggests that as a result of this law Americans may have saved as much as $209 billion in charges related to credit card debt.

Advantage car rental to enter Chapter 11

Wisconsin residents who follow business news may be interested to learn that Advantage Rent A Car is headed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. At issue is the value of cars that have been purchased from Hertz as part of Advantage's sale to Franchise Services of North America and Macquarie Capital. It is this part of the deal that has Advantage struggling with debt.

Bad weather and industry stagnancy blamed for golf shops failing

Golf enthusiasts in Wisconsin may be interested to here that on Nov. 4, the private equity firm that is the owner of the Edwin Watts Golf Shops, Sun Capital Partners, submitted a filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to a news release, the Edwin Watts president stated that a year of bad weather and a stagnant golf industry as a whole were at fault for the failure of the company, which was founded in 1968.
