As both the founder of Miller & Miller and from a personal standpoint, Jamie knows how devastating financial issues can be to an individual and their family. While Jamie was an undergraduate at University of Wisconsin in Madison, his own parents were forced into bankruptcy due to a series of health issues and business setbacks.
During this period, Jamie and his sibling helped their parents navigate the complex paperwork, court system and the emotional toll that were part of their bankruptcy process. While the bankruptcy was difficult for Jamie and his family, there was a bit of a “personal silver lining”. The experience convinced him to attend University of Miami and pursues a legal degree focusing on bankruptcy and financial matters.
Pairing over 20 years experience in bankruptcy and debt relief with a compassionate understanding of an individual’s feelings when faced with overwhelming debt, Jamie and his staff help individuals from all walks of life. By developing an understanding of each individual’s personal situation, Jamie helps clients find the best solution for their problems.
Bankruptcy isn’t right for everyone and in some cases, Jamie may recommend another route to financial freedom. Whether discussing Chapter 7, financial planning or credit restoration, Jamie has a sincere interest in his client’s problems and desire to help those in need.
Having started his firm in an empty room with nothing but a phone and legal pad, Jamie and his staff now have offices in Downtown Milwaukee, Brookfield, Kenosha and Madison. At Miller & Miller, the focus is on providing assistance to those battling financial problems and providing sound, financial strategies for individuals and companies across Southeastern Wisconsin. This dedication has enabled Miller & Miller to become one of the state’s most respected and successful law firms dealing with bankruptcy and financial matters.
Outside of his legal practice, Jamie volunteers with a number of charitable groups such as Operation Dream and the Milwaukee Jewish Community Center, plays in a local basketball league and runs the occasional marathon.
Attorney Miller and his staff are also committed to preserving justice and strengthening community in both their professional and personal lives.
Jamie has served as Board Chair at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Milwaukee. The JCC is an organization that celebrates Jewish life and values while providing for the community as a whole with diversified social, educational, recreational, and cultural programming.
Attorney James Miller is also a strong supporter of Operation Dream, which stands for Discipline, Respect, Education and Appreciation through Mentoring. This non-profit organization provides developmental opportunities and mentoring for over 250 boys and young men who are primarily of color and need positive role models in Milwaukee. It organizes and facilitates Saturday enrichment activities, tutoring support through academic collaboration, workforce development training, athletic opportunities, and summer programs.
Additionally, Attorney James Miller is the former President of Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association (mjfla.org), and is a current loan committee Chair. MJFLA provides interest-free loans to those with temporary financial needs, promoting self-sufficiency, dignity, and a “hand-up instead of a handout”. All loans are confidential and given on a non-sectarian basis to those who meet established criteria but are unable to obtain conventional loans. Because all loans are repaid, MJFLA recycles those funds into new loans for other individuals.
