Wisconsin takes its sports seriously and the athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are no exception. The university boasts a renowned athletics department.
Part of the Big Ten Conference, the Wisconsin Badger football team has participated in 28 bowl games. Football fans enjoy games at Camp Randall Stadium.
Their Badger basketball team has participated in the NCAA Tournament for 18 years, appearing in the final four three times. Badger basketball fans cheer for their team at Kohl Center.
Integral to the University’s athletics program is the school mascot, Bucky the Badger. Adored throughout Wisconsin, Bucky’s image has become synonymous with great sports moments.
The badger became the university’s mascot in the 1890s when a live badger was introduced at football games. The iconic Bucky mascot was created in 1940.
Mendota And Monona Lakes
Lake Mendota and Lake Monona are two lakes that surround the isthmus where Madison is built. Both lakes host a number of recreational activities, including sailing, kayaking, wake-boarding, wind-surfing, fishing, skiing and more.

The arboretum has more than 1,200 acres tallgrass prairie, wetlands and forests to explore. The Olbrich Botanical Gardens, on the north side of Lake Monona, has 16 acres of gardens to explore, as well as the Bolz Conservatory.
