Take Notes When Speaking to Collectors

One important thing to do when you are speaking with a debt collector is to take detailed notes. The more detail that you can provide about the conversations with collectors, the more credibility you will have if you are involved in a lawsuit against the collector.

I'll never be able to buy a home if I file bankruptcy

Wrong. Can you buy one now? Probably not. Bankruptcy will give you the ability to save for a down payment. Also, you will have the income to qualify for a mortgage, something you can't do now because your debts take up all of your disposable income. HUD to give away $1 billion to struggling homeowners-ANOTHER OPTION TO HELP SAVE YOUR HOME

In June, the HUD launched $1 billion Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program, or EHLP. This program is one that targets homeowners who are among the most difficult to help; those who fell behind on their mortgage payments because of job loss or unexpected medical bills. This latest government program was supposed to start last year, but implementation delays mean that HUD must spend all of its $1 billion by the end of September 2011. This program will help home owners repay mortgage payments that are behind.
